A new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre for all to enjoy

The old Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre opened its doors in 1966.
Now, 52 years later, it has reached the end of its useful life and in need of replacement. This is our opportunity to create a wonderful new facility and gathering place for future generations to enjoy.

There has been much public consultation, and I have listened to all the user groups and hope to fulfil all or most of their wishes - from a new seniors centre, curling ice, fitness and gymnastics facilities, lawn bowling, hockey arena, skateboard park, and a 50 metre pool.

To offset the cost of the new facility, the City will lease the adjoining city-owned land for much needed housing development, with the funds going towards paying for the new centre. This development will include market housing (purchase and rental), with some units earmarked for affordable rental and assisted living. This development is also expected to include a medical office building, restaurant, grocery store, and child care facility. In addition, Crickmay Park will be expanded, and our beloved Green Necklace pathway will weave through the development, making this a truly compact and walkable community.

I am excited to support this project. But, there is still much work to do. During my next term, I will work with Council to guide this project to successful completion and to ensure that it remains financially viable for our community. Once completed, the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre will be a wonderful community gathering place and the jewel of our City.
