Complete construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and Silver Harbour Seniors Centre.
I am so excited to finally see shovels in the ground for this project. Once completed, these wonderful facilities will be inclusive for residents of all ages and all life stages, for generations to come. I’ll work hard to ensure that this project stays on track and remains inclusive for everyone. |
Continue our efforts to create more affordable and diverse housing options.
We’ve come a long way with rental housing but there is more work to do. I will continue to push for more below market housing options with each development project, protect and expand our rental stock, including rent-to-own, supportive housing for women and children, and create affordable and accessible childcare options close to home. |
Supporting seniors.
The Baby Boom generation has always been a large part of the North Shore population. They are now seniors and need to be recognized. As a city, I feel we can and should do more to support this growing population in areas such as affordable housing and social programs. I will continue working with government and local businesses to provide the services necessary to make life easier for seniors and to allow them to age in place. |
Advocating for youth.
Youth and young adults have their own set of unique concerns. Climate change, zero waste initiatives, LGBTQ inclusion, medical and mental health accessibility and affordability are high on their list. I look forward to continuing our work with our younger community members to achieve their goals. Continue roundtables with small businesses.
We started having business roundtables during the pandemic and we need to continue these productive meetings, so our businesses know we are serious about supporting them and following through on our strategic plan so that all business grow and continue to thrive. |
Reducing homelessness.
This is a huge and growing challenge for our community. I will continue to work with our local and provincial partners to increase support to make our community healthier. That means looking at creative options such as tiny homes, RV parking areas, and safe zones for people to gather during extreme hot and cold weather. Build on our relationships and partnerships with community members.
During the last term, City Council had regular dinner meetings with School District 44, Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation. These meetings have been very informative, and we need to continue on this path. We are the North Shore and we all succeed when we work together. |
Tackling drug use and overdose.
Over the past ten years, overdose and death from toxic drug use have risen alarmingly and is now a public health emergency in BC. The North Shore is not immune from this tragedy, and we need to do more to focus on the drug epidemic in our community. I will continue to work with our municipal partners and our local MLAs to recognize and address this problem. |
